What if we just hired the lobbyists away from “Hollywood” so they’d stop trying to ruin the Internet?

Don't Repeat Yourself
“Don’t repeat yourself” is good advice when you’re writing computer code, but when you’re interacting with colleagues it’s not so great.
“I already answered your question in an earlier e-mail, why are you asking me again?” does not help your project.
Rounded corners are over rated.

How many times to I have to say this: “trial” is not a verb. You can’t “trial” new technology.

Track Day
“Participants keep right and check in at the box office.”
“If any of you have pre-registered, I can help you down here.”
“Can my friend ride along?”
“Sorry. No passengers.”
I can’t believe I’m driving my car onto a racetrack!
“Do I need a helmet?”
“They won’t let you go without a helmet. It says so on the website.”
“Hm – I didn’t read that about the helmets on the web site.”
“They’ll rent...
Don’t say, “Application instance is already present.” Just say, “Another copy of application is already running.”

Dear software user-interface designers and engineers,
A blinking cursor is supposed to indicate where the text will appear when I start typing.

Dear Software Manufacturers, I agree to the terms of the license; why do you make me lie and say that I’ve read it?

Jay Maisel is one of the most interesting, inspiring, informative, and entertaining teachers that I’ve ever seen. He happens to teach photography, which I enjoy a great deal.
KelbyTraining.com (whose product I paid for) is offering a free two-hour web broadcast of their new video course “Another Day with Jay Maisel” on Monday, June 6th at...

C# Extension Methods
I knew from using LINQ extension methods (such as First() and Last()) that you needed to include the namespace of the extensions in order for them to hook up to the extended types.
But I’d never written my own extension methods before.
Now I have - and now that I’ve included their namespace, they all show up just as I expected.
Hooray!

Thank you.

TouchStudio
Downloaded TouchStudio from Microsoft Research the second I heard about it.
Looks like there’s going to be a learning curve.
But now I can finally try implementing algorithms without pulling out my laptop!
¡No Problemo!
Just so you know - to type an upside-down exclamation point in my U.S. copy of Microsoft Office on my U.S. keyboard, all I have to do is type ctrl-alt-shift-1 (or ctrl-alt-!).
My Mexican amigo just types an exclamation point at the front of a sentence and it automatically figures out that it should be the upside-down one.
Oh well. ¡Así es la vida!
NoDo
Finally got the “NoDo” update (a.k.a. “the one with copy-and-paste”) today for my Windows Phone #WP7.

Keyboard Mapping with SharpKeys
Several days ago I used SharpKeys to swap my CTRL and CAPS LOCK keys. It said that as soon as I restart or log-off/log-on I would see the change.
I had almost forgotten about it.
Then last night I shut down my computer instead of putting it to sleep. This morning (after enduring several minutes of waiting for Windows to launch applications) I tried to open a new tab in my browser.
